The British Council in Libya hosted last February 27, 2014, an event at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tripoli to present to potential Libyan partners, international organizations and development agencies the Springboard Programme. More than 80 people took part in the event including representatives from the British Embassy, the EU, the UNDP, the Libyan Ministries of Youth, Labour and Transport as well as national NGOs. Among the participants were 50 Libyan women who have been part of the programme in Libya in 2013 and 2014.
This was an occasion for them to get to know each other and create new opportunities for them and their organizations through the Springboard network. As Haweida Diab, one of the Springboard trainers in Libya, pointed out: “We are now hoping to present the programme to all Libyan towns and cities and to all Libyan women because self-development is extremely important”. Rabia al-Zawee, who was among the participants of the first group to be trained in Libya and is a school principal, stressed how she benefited from the programme on a personal level and through her daily work becoming more aware of her aspirations. A video about the Springboard programme in Libya has been released on the occasion.
